Director: Chris Makin has played in the English Premiership as captain of Sunderland. His outstanding career included playing for of Olympique de Marseille of the French Ligue I and Top English teams Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Southampton and Wigan Athletic. The highlight of his career was taking and converting a penalty kick in front of 80,000 in the famous Wembly Stadium. Chris has a unique precepctive spent his formative years beginning as a 14 year old at the The Lilleshall School of Excellence. Mr. Makin holds a UEFA “B” License and spent the summer of 2011 working three weeks with Premier Soccer Camps
STAFF: Our staff is one of the most educated, experienced and accomplished soccer coaches teaching at any camp in the county. Our staff is made up of male and female professional players, college coaches and youth coaches who are licensed by the United States Soccer Federation and National Soccer Coaches of America. Listed below are instructors who have worked for Superior Soccer Camps in the past. We expect most or all of them back for 2010.
Steve GONZALEZ – CA – Director:
Member of the Los Angles Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS) 2005-2007. Steve was part of the LA Galaxy when they won the MLS Championship in 2004 and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup in 2005. Steve also played Professional Soccer in Mexico with the famed Mexican Premier League Team Atlas FC of Guadalajara. Steve directed Soccer Clinics for the LA Galaxy in 2004 and 2005 throughout Southern California. Coach Gonzalez has directed numerous soccer programs with Pro Select Soccer, Matrix Soccer and Kodiak Soccer. Mr. Gonzalez served as Associate Director for Premier Soccer Camps in Carlsbad, CA. Steve is a licensed United States Soccer Federation Coach and licensed by National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Tayrne has been a Premier Soccer Camps staff member for the past two summers. She was a member of the U-20 Canadian National Team. She represented her country in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Moscow, Russia. Tayrne started in two of Canada’s three matches in the World Cup against Finland and Nigeria … Saw action in preparation for the World Cup against such nation’s as Australia, China, Finland and Mexico Tayrne played for Canada’s U-18, U-16 and U-15 national teams. Ms. Boudreau was one of the leading scorers in the history of the LSU Soccer program during her five-year career from 2007-11 with 21 Goals 19 Assists for 61 points.

Craig holds the German Soccer Federation (DFB) “B” coaching license and the USSF “B” coaching license. He is one of the first Americans to play professional soccer in Germany with Hamburger Sport Verein A. and Altona 93 in the German 3rd Division. He also played professional soccer for the San Diego Nomands of the APSL. Craig served as assistant coach for the Hamburger Sport Verein’s Women’s Bundesliga (1st division) soccer team. Craig is also a California credentialed teacher with many years of experience.
Mabel VELARDE-COBA – CA Associate Director
Mabel is a member of Ecuador’s Full Women’s National Team. Mabel has played against both Brazil and Argentina in International competition. She represented Ecuador for the past three and a half years and played in the Olympic Qualification Matches. Ms. Velarde-Coba has also played for U-20, U-23 Ecuador National Team. She was identified by the national team staff at the age of 13. Mabel played in Costa Rica with the famous SAPRISSA Division I team. In 2010, she played in the United States as one of the top players in the Women’s Premier Soccer League for the San Diego Sea Lions. Mabel attended college in the United States. As a freshman at Lee University, Mabel tallied 11 assists leading Lee to the #1 ranking in the final NAIA Poll. Mabel transferred to Southeast Missouri and was named OVC All-Newcomer Team selection and a Southeast Missouri Scholar Athlete. Coach Mabel served on the Premier Soccer Camp staff in 2010 working in Carlsbad, CA. Mabel has developed World Class Technique in International Competition for the Ecuador National Team. Her Technique demonstrations at Premier Soccer Camp are an important part of training young female players. At camp our young players can see Mabel demonstrate and then these young female players can imitate Mabel’s technique.
Jason holds coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation and NSCAA and a Bachelors Degree from Bridgewater College. Jason “Taz” brings to Premier Soccer Camps a record of character, success and accomplishment encompassing both genders at all levels of soccer. Jason has enjoyed success coaching both Men and Women at the College level. He was Head Coach at Stonehill College from 1999-2001 as he led the Chieftains from last place to 4th place in the very tough NE-10 Conference his first season, compiling 28 wins in 4 seasons with the program. Jason coached at Division 3 Emerson College in Boston from 2004-2007 as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach. At Emerson, Jason was named GNAC Conference “Coach of the Year” in 2004 and compiled an overall record of 45-18-9 in four seasons. He also guided Emerson to the GNAC Conference Championship Game and their first ever ECAC Tournament appearance in 2007. While at Emerson College, Wheaton College, and Stonehill College Tassinari coached 25 All-Conference players, 1 All-American, 3 Conference Rookies of the Year, and 4 Conference MVP’s. As a player, Jason captained his college team in 1994. He was selected to the MASCAC All-Conference 1st team his senior season at Bridgewater State as a defender and led the Bears to the Conference Championship and an ECAC tournament bid the same year. Jason coached the Massachusetts State ODP Boys 12 and 13 teams in 1997 and 1998. He was also the Head Coach for Boys and Girls Scholastic u18 Soccer Teams at the Bay State Games (2001-2006) leading the Boys team to a gold medal in 2001 and the coveted Sportsmanship Award in 2005. He co-directed and co-owned his own soccer camp (First Choice Soccer Camp) in Fairhaven, MA from 2001-2005, as well as the Stonehill College Men’s Soccer Camp in 2000. Jason currently resides in North Plymouth, MA with his wife Andrea who is the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach at Brockton High School.

Coach Swanbeck is the former Head Coach of NCAA Division I program, West Point Military Academy (Army). Mr. Swanbeck directed soccer camps at Georgia and New York for more than for 10 years serving thousands of young soccer players. Kurt is the former president of the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches Association.

A 1981 graduate of Columbia University with 2 Masters Degrees, Swanbeck served as head men’s soccer coach at Berry College in Mount Berry, GA., compiling an impressive overall record of 112-69-5 (.616). He left as the winningest coach in the school’s history, guiding the Vikings to conference postseason tournament appearances in all nine of his years at the helm.
A two-time conference and region coach of the year honoree, Swanbeck led the Vikings to one of their most successful seasons ever in 2001, finishing with a 17-5 record, a No. 13 national ranking and the school’s first NAIA Tournament appearance in two decades. The previous year, Swanbeck’s team completed the season with a No. 3 ranking, the highest the Vikings had ever been in the polls.
As a player, Kurt played professional soccer in the American Soccer League (ASL) in 1982. As a player at Columbia University, Coach Swanbeck named to the All Ivy Team 3 times. As Captain of Columbia, he led the University to 2 Ivy League Titles and an NCAA Division I Final Four Appearance. Kurt was named first team All American at Franklin (MA) High School as a senior.
He spent five years as head coach at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., prior to assuming control of the soccer program at Berry. Coach Swanback began his coaching career as an assistant on the staff at Dartmouth College. He returned to his alma mater in the fall of 1983, serving a five-year term as an assistant on the Lions’ coaching staff. During that period, Columbia posted a 58-17-7 record while claiming a trio of Ivy League championships. The club made three trips to the NCAA Regional Finals and advanced to the NCAA Championship game in 1983, closing the regular season ranked No. 1 nationally.
Coach Swanbeck is married to the former Lynne Khoury of Auburn, Mass. The couple have 3 children.
Pat Malone – Director
Mr. Malone hold UEFA (European) “A” License. Pat is Academy Manager & Head of Football Development at Home Farm Football Club Irish Premiership . The Home Farm Football club has developed many players currently competing in the English Premiership. Pat has coached multiple teams at the highest levels of European and Irish Youth Soccer. Those positions include 1st Team Manager at Drumcondra Football Club Irish Premiership, Head of Youth Football at Bohemian Football Club Irish Premiership, Reserve Team Coach at Shelbourne Football Club Irish Premiership.
Chris Malone – Director
Mr. Malone is currently the Head Coach for the U-20 Team of the Bohemian Football Club the Irish Premiership. Chris holds the UEFA (European) B License and will complete his UEFA A License in June.
Coach Malone played in the Irish Football League Premiership. Bohemian FC in one of the most successful clubs in the history of Ireland winning the League of Ireland title 11 times and the FA Cup 7 times.
John Reilley- Director
Mr. Reilley hold a UEFA (European ) “A” License. John has worked at the highest levels of youth soccer in Europe having coached multiple European Elite Youth Teams. Mr. Riley has also obtained the highest youth soccer license in the world, The English Football Association Elite Youth Coaching License.
Tim EDWARDS – Goalkeeper Program Director
Professional soccer player for the San Diego Sockers of the PASL. Tim played outdoors for the San Diego Gauchos of the USL. Coach Edwards was a star for De Anaza College and at San Diego State Time was All-MPSF. Tim has been a staff member of Premier Soccer Camps for the past 4 years and is renowned for his technical and tactical expertise and enthusiasm for the game of soccer. Tim has a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Goalkeeping License and a USSF Coaching License. Mr. Edwards is considered one of the top Goalkeeper Instructors in Southern California. His methods are the most modern and up to date available as he passes his experiences as an active professional soccer player onto his students at Premier Soccer Camps.
Andrew PALMER – New York Director
Andrew coaches at Leicester City FC of England’s Professional Football Leagues. Mr. Palmer has a great deal of experience at the highest levels of soccer in England. He has coached the highest levels of youth soccer. Andrew has coached against the top England Premiership Youth Academy Teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea. Andrew played in England for Notts County and Eastwood Town. He guided the various age groups, winning numerous trophies and making the Cup Finals every year since 2005. Mr. Palmer lead his team to a Cup Final at the Nottingham Forest F.C Academy and also at Meadow Lane (home of Notts County FC the oldest football club in the world). Andrew established and worked as Director of ‘Football For Fun’ for 3 years where he applied and received funding to coordinate and deliver Football camps on the Forest Recreation ground to children aged 7-15 from Nottingham and the surrounding area.
Holds an “A” License from the United States Soccer Federation and an Advanced National Diploma for the NSCAA. As a College Coach during the past four years Keith has been at NCAA Division I Men’s College Program West Point as Associate Head Coach. Keith was Head Men’s soccer coach at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Mass. KC led the Bears for three years, winning MASCAC “Coach of the Year” honors in 1998 and leading them to the ECAC Tournament. Keith Coached Professional Soccer with the Bay Area Seals of the USL “A” League serving as Technical Director. KC was instrumental in helping lead the Seals to the USL Championship Playoffs. A highlight of that season was the Seals victory and draw over the San Jose Earthquakes of the Major League Soccer. Mr. Clark then spent two years (1999-2000) as an assistant coach with the Cape Cod Crusaders, a USL Professional League team based out of Hyannis, Mass. Keith was an outstanding player at NCAA Division II Power Keene State as a prominent midfielder. Keith played professional soccer in the USL for the Boston Storm in 1995.From 1997-2000, Clark was a member of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association’s instructional staff, serving as an assistant coach of the Boys 15-and-under state team during the 1997 season. Keith also owned and operated the Ultimate Soccer Academy, in East Orleans, Mass. There, he ran and directed a very successful co-ed residential and day camps for youths. He was responsible for designing the camp curriculum and hiring a staff to make sure it was taught correctly. Clark graduated from Keene State College (Keene, N.H.) in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
While attending Chapman University, she was a standout player as their playmaking central midfielder. Karina has worked at Premier Soccer Camps for 3 years and has a fantastic technical and tactical knowledge of the game of soccer. Coach Perez was Director of the Junior Program at our Carlsbad, CA location in 2010. As a future Elementary School Teacher, Karina is outstanding at making sure our soccer training program is a positive experience for the Juniors as they learn, have fun and get better. She grew up with the game as comes from a soccer family. Her father has been a very successful youth soccer coach in Southern California. Ms. Perez herself has served as an Assistant Coach for her father from a very young age. She has a great love of soccer and for children. Karina began her career as a standout youth player in Southern California.
Sarah played last season with the San Diego Sea Lions of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Sarah played for Converse College as one of the top midfielders in her division. She possesses outstanding speed which is on display whenever she gives demonstrations at camp or plays in an evening game. Sarah is an Elite Player and a outstanding coach. Sarah is currently coaching High School Soccer in Southern California.
Trevor played in the FIFA World Cup Qualification Tournament and the Olympic Qualification Tournament as a member of the St Lucia National Team.
He spent part of 2005 with the professional soccer team The California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Mr. Daniel is President and Head Coach of one of the top 1st Division clubs in his country of St Lucia. Trevor has been with us for 3 years and is always one favorite coaches with all the campers due to his knowledge and understanding of soccer and beautiful personality.
Bernie is a professional player who has ammassed 400 goals and 210 assists in his career. He is considered one of the top youth coaches in California working with and developing many aspiring youth soccer players. Bernie won an APSL Championship with the San Francisco Blackhawks. While with the Blackhawks Bernie played against such famous clubs as Chivas (Mex), Club American (Mex) and Pumas (Mex). Bernie has played in the Scottish First Division with Ary United and in the USL “A” League (Charleston, Connecticut). Internationally, Coach Lilovois has played for the United States Indoor National Team. He has won a Gold Medal in the Gold Cup and a Bronze Medal In the CONCACAF Championships in Costa Rico. Bernie currently plays professional soccer for the California Cougars of the MISL and worked for Premier Soccer Camp in 2005.
Jayme played for the Washington Freedom of the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPS) in 2009. She was teammates with US Stars Abby Wambach and Brianna Scurry. Jamye was a college star at UCLA and Wake Forest. She is an outstanding coach who is always a favorite of all our campers.
Plays professional soccer for the California Cougars of the MISL and worked for Premier Soccer Camps in 2006. Enrique is considered one of Northern California’s top youth coaches currently working with Santa Clara Sporting. Enrique is a professional soccer player with the California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Considered one of the top strikers in the MISL. Enrique played 2004 and 2005 outdoor season in the USL with the California Gold. Enrique attended San Diego State where he was the schools leading scorers in 2000. NSCAA All Regional Second Team in 2000.
Craig is a professional soccer player with the California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Craig has played professional soccer with the St Louis Steamers and Baltimore Blast, winning a MISL Championship with the Blast in 2003. Craig was one of the outstanding instructors at our California Premier Soccer Camps. While at University of Illinois, Craig was a 2 time All American for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In the off season, Craig is a top soccer trainer for the Livermore California Youth Soccer Club. At Premier Soccer Camp in 2006 Craig put special emphasis on soccer skills.
Myra is one of the top female soccer players at Oxnard College. Myra has an outstanding California Soccer Club career behind her and expects to be one of the top Junior College Soccer Players in California in 2008. Myra was an extremely popular instructor at Premier Soccer Camp.
Matt Caution is a professional soccer player with the California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Matt has worked soccer camps for 8 years. Matt gives an extremely high level of commitment to the players he instructs at soccer camp and we were pleased to have him at Premier Soccer Camp in 2005 and 2006. Matt played outdoor professional soccer with the Cincinnati “A” League Team and 3rd Division in Belgium.
Born and raised with a ball at his feet in Brazil, Ricardinho is a magician with the soccer ball. He teaches and plays soccer the Brazilian way focusing on technique and dealing with the ball. Ricardinho is a master at technique and ball skills. He has had an outstanding professional outdoor soccer career with Palmerias of Brazil, Aviacion of Lima Peru and in the German 2nd Division with Bahlingen. Richardinho has represented his country (Brazil) on the National Indoor Team. He was a critical player for the Milwaukee Wave’s Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Team of 2005. Richardinho is living in San Ramon, CA and playing for the California Cougars of the MISL. Rico has been a very popular coach for Premier Soccer Camps.
Coach Charles is an USSF B Licensed Coach and is one of the most successful HS Girls Soccer Coaches in New Jersey, leading the Mahwah Girls Team to multiple HS State and League Championships. Many of Colly’s girls have gone onto very successful College playing careers. Mr. Charles has played International Soccer for the St Lucian National Team. He has represented his country in World Cup Qualifiers, the Gold Cup and the Shell Caribbean Cup. Currently, Colly is working with professional teams and regional CONCACAF power Joe Public Football Club in Trinidad. Colly has worked soccer camps for over 15 years.
Morgan is an outstanding soccer player who has competed at the highest level of club soccer in California. Morgan worked with us at our 2006 Premier Soccer Camp and specialized in defense with our campers. She is currently attending California State University at Channel Islands.
